Soren chuckled, watching her, keeping an ever present smile. Something told him that she was a lot of fun when she wasn't crying her eyes out over...whatever it had been. He found the way she cautiously threw the stone then her perk of happiness to be rather endearing. Her eyes lit up in a way that he hadn't seen since he'd found her crying on that park bench. She was actually pretty cute as she handed him the stone back. Even if her eyes were red, she WAS cute. Or, maybe he just had a thing for cute girls with white dreads. He didn't know.
He took the stone in hand, running his thumb over the back of it and prepared himself for the toss. Being a demon, well, he had something of an unfair advantage. He'd had a good throw twice maybe it would be reasonable to miss this time and not come off as pity... So that's what he did, he tossed....and tossed a bit too far. "Shit!" He laughed, the demon jogged forward to pick up the stone that had missed the chalk layout by...quite a bit. "Well, looks like you get to ask me something, now."

"The tables have turned at last!" Anna said, doing her best impression of an evil cackle. Right then, she was actually enjoying herself. She still hurt, more than she ever had, but Soren was doing an amazing job at being distracting. She should probably thank him, but later. She still wasn't sure what his intentions were.
"Let's see..." she drawled, tapping her bottom lip in thought. She COULD just straight up ask him why he was bothering with her, or trying so hard to cheer her up. But she'd beat around the bush; she'd play his game. "How old are you?" she settled on, watching him curiously.

Soren grinned at her evil cackle and tried to make his best disappointed face and shrug at his loss. "Ah, you can't win them all, my dear." Watching as she tried to think of her question, he couldn't help but smile. She was actually really cute when she wasn't crying or glaring or opening herself up to insidious acts by strangers. When she asked his age, he almost laughed. If she only knew. Demons lived a whole lot longer than humans. A whole lot longer than they could imagine. "229, give or take a few years." His lips pulled into a smirk, but for her benefit, and because she wouldn't believe him anyway, he said. "27. Getting pretty old, i've got to say."

Anna rolled her eyes at Soren. "Aren't women supposed to be the ones that lie about their age?" she teased, but then nodded. He looked to be in his late 20s. Attractive and still young, Anna had to wonder again what he was doing out so late.
"Why are you here?" she asked, tossing the stone into the grass. The distraction was nice, but she was starting to get tired. Honestly, she was exhausted. All the crying took a lot of energy out of her. She just wanted to curl up in bed...
In her bed, all alone, without the person who had been her rock for so many years. The thought hurt, and she bit her lip. It was scary, being out in the world by herself. They'd been together for so long...

Soren watched her toss the rock aside and he rolled his shoulder into a shrug. "I'm not sure, really. I. I'm a little lost, not geographically, just mentally." He didn't think she would care, honestly. Strangers hardly ever wanted to hear your sob story...but he had watched her cry and she had asked, so it was only fair that he answer honestly.
"I've...recently found myself abandoned. Kind of like a bid sad puppy. Crashing with my cousin and she has...quite a few people in her house these days so I needed the fresh air. Then, I heard a girl crying and I have to say...guess I was a little impressed someone had the strength to just let it out like that when I'm too much of a coward to." Soren kicked at a pebble on the ground, chuckling at how pathetic he must have sounded.
Looking back up at her, he gave her a little sad smile. "Sorry, that sounds a little pathetic from a stranger."

Anna snorted, crossing her arms over her chest. "Strength? I didn't have any LEFT. I'd been putting on a brave face all night for my friends, and..." she sighed, and shook her head. "That wasn't strength. That was shattering."
As much as she didn't wish her pain on anyone, hearing that little bit of his story made her feel less alone. She wasn't the only one hurting.
Shivering as a cold breeze brushed through, she asked, "Did you maybe want to get some coffee? I want to get out of this wind..."

He chuckled. "I guess I can understand that...but...I don't know. Tears take a lot of strength in my family. Just how I was raised." Looking around the park, almost worried he'd offended her, the demon gave a mock shiver to the cold.
A coffee? It was almost amusing considering an hour ago she was telling him to get over with whatever he planned to do with her or get lost. Still, he wasn't a man to look a gift horse in the mouth. He wasn't ready to go back to that place, and standing out in a dark park probably gave people the wrong idea...
"Yeah. Plus I don't want some rent a cop to come through here and think I'm trying to sell little girls drugs in the dead of night." He laughed.

Anna shook her head at his jokes. It was a little strange to her, how he could go from serious to that in a matter of seconds. She wondered if he was bipolar, but honestly, it was probably a way to cope. Just jump right out of whatever bad thoughts plagued him. It was nice method, until it finally caught up with you at once and left you wrecked.
"Come on," she said, and started to walk away. "I know a place nearby that's got pretty decent coffee. Not sure how you feel about sweets, but their cakes are to die for.."

If soren were honest with himself, he was tired. He wanted a bed to sleep in that was his own and didn't smell like the product that the spikey haired friend of Vaine's boyfriend used on his hair. he wanted a place that was his own so he could walk around nude and changed and didn't have to bother with anyone else getting uncomfortable. Soren wanted to be powerful again, wealthy and with his lovely woman on his side.
Instead he was here, with this woman in this human skin. She wasn't so bad though, not really. "Sweets are alright. I like the tart stuff. I like my sweets with a little bite." Chuckling he looked down at his watch. "So this place is open at this hour, and still serving good sweets? I'm starting to think you've been holding out on the rest of the world because I didn't know about this place. I coulda used it a night or two ago."

Anna kicked a loose stone as she walked, her hands showed into her hoodie's front pocket. "It's just something... my ex and I found, years ago. We'd come here a lot, back when we both got off work really late in the morning and were too lazy to cook. It's honestly just a 24 hour diner. Their food and coffee is okay, but their sweets are delicious. And the people are really nice."
It wasn't a long walk. When they stepped inside Anna smiled at the warmth. There were a few others sitting around; other regulars that cast Anna waves which she returned. A thick woman called, "Heyo, hon'! Just sit wherever you want and I'll be with you in a sec!"
"Thanks, Daisy," she called back, and led Soren to a booth in the corner. They'd repainted the place since the last time she'd been here, and replaced the furniture. It made her sad, to know so much had changed. This place. Her and Rellik...
